I haven't watched soaps for years...didn't know they were still on either. They show old soap reruns on the Soap channel if you have cable.

I don't think CBS would touch those with a 10-foot pole! CBS started eliminating their own soaps a while back. Two down and two more to go, IMHO. So there's The View (gag!), The Talk (ick!) and now The Chew (link below...doesn't sound good, but do love the pic!). Good grief, time to get a LIFE!

I'm still mad that they cancelled Dark Shadows.

Wow, they've been on forever. Do people even watch shows during the day? Soaps are so predictable and just so exaggerated. Wonder what they will put in the slots?

So depressing!! Been watching for years, started watching when my 1st child was born 33 years ago. Can't believe they are leaving General Hospital on, which in my opinion is the worst soap on the air. It should be renamed General Mobster. Probably replace these shows with some more doctor type shows, like Dr. Oz or Dr. Phil. I read a few months ago that soapnet was no longer going to show the daily shows of ABC, that they will become some other type of network, and I wondered then if my favorite soaps were in jeopardy.

Soaps used to be our mainstay when we had the family bakery. DH installed a TV in back over the work table - he was the first one hooked on the soaps. It started when he got engrossed in General Hospital with the Luke and Laura/Cassidine/Robert Scorpio saga, but he followed all the ABC soaps - Ryans Hope, AMC, One Life to Live. (He sometimes burned the cookies when something exciting was going on). We ended up addicted to those soaps - we watched/listened to them while we worked. DH and I even went to a convention where we met Phoebe Tyler (the late Ruth Warrick - a beautiful and truly nice woman); Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers - a really unlikable, unfriendly, unapproachable snob in real life); and others unfortunately now forgotten. Though we haven't watched in years, it's like losing old friends.

I honestly cannot see soaps surviving this new era of tv. I know there are a lot of loyal soap fans, but things are changing and they can't go on forever.

Back in the 90's during H.S, my drama teacher was a big Days of Our Lives fan and he use to bring a tv set out to the stage and watch it while we built sets

The head of ABC Daytime, Brian Frons, has made it his mission since Day One to get rid of the soaps. He's micromanaged these two shows to the point where they're unwatchable on a daily basis (and it pains me to say that; I've been watching both of them since they first came on the air). And now he has the justification to get his wish. I hope he rots in talk show hell!

Oh, dear ... Thank you so much for the laugh! I'm still mad about that, too!
