^^ Huh -- didn't really think about Svenghoulie going national. He makes a lot of Chicago-specific references and in-jokes (particularly about Berwyn) that are probably lost on a wider audience.
I recently gave up my cable for an indoor TV antenna and digital converter box. I was surprised that MeTV is one of the channels I get nice and clear. Happy, happy, happy!
On Sunday night at midnight, I switch the Dish receiver off to the antenna to watch the Fugitive, Naked City, and 2 episodes of Peter Gunn. It's amazing how he gets crimes solved in 22 minutes. Route 66 is on at 3 AM but a little too late for me. But I did watch an episode where I recognized the voice and realized it was a really young, with hair Robert Duval.
Another OTA channel I found, [in the Tampa area 32-2] THIS TV Don't know where they find them but they show movies never seen on the 'cable' channels.
And, if you're into music videos, channel 38-2 COOL TV 24/7 music videos, old ones that VH1 classic use to show.
The only problem I find with OTA programing is that there's no 'tv guide' to scroll. You have to remember when a show is on.
doesn't look like Sacramento gets it or some of the other OTA enhancements from what I could find.
being connected to your Over-The-Air Antenna, enter your TV menu, look for set-up (or tools) and there should be an option to scan for channels. If you haven't done this since the analog-digital conversion, you'll be surprised with what you find you can tune to for free.
dumped DirecTV once we found what was available and haven't regretted it yet.
I have a menu on my digital box. It tells me what shows I can watch, a description and allows me to put in "favorites" so I can skip the the "God" channels.
Have you noticed back then that there were fewer commercial breaks and they were alot shorter as compared to the new shows on cable today.
What I find really weird was that the commercials they had back then were the same ones we have today, you'd think we would have been amazed seeing those new-fangled products way-back-when, but I guess we were too busy looking out the window for mushroom clouds.
I can't help but think of Nick at Nite's Block Party Summer that they ran at some point in the 90s when I see those Summer of Me commericals. One of the year's they had Mary Mondays, Lucy Tuesdays, Bewitched BeWednesdays, Jeannie Thursdays and Sgt. Joe Fridays.
Loved that programming block and I do enjoy ME-TV a lot. Am partial to the morning comedies, feeding one of my twins watching Dobie Gillis at 4:30am which is our thing when I have to work mornings and laughing out loud like I did when it used to come on Nick at Nite when I was a teenager.
