Negan is too important of a character to go away quickly. And being realistic, too much of a bad guy with too big of an Army to easily and quickly be dispatched.
Spoiler
Maybe Negan can be Shane's father instead of Judith.

Just saw this on the interwebs. There is a rumor going around that ---- is going to die. That would be a shame. But probably for the best. I hope it's especially gruesome. I mean Glen and Abraham were kind of let downs. They went too fast.

It all stems from his contract ending. That doesn't mean he's done. It means he can leave or get them to pay him more money. I don't see why he couldn't do both if he and the studio wanted him to do so.

And that relationship plays a critical role in what's to come. I'd hate for him to be recast, but he has to do what's best for him.
They don't even need to do any of that. They can shoot around his class schedule. Currently Chandler Riggs goes to public school and they only shoot his scenes on weekends so it doesn't affect his schoolwork. Why does this have to be any different?
IMO the kid should go to classes and continue filming TWD. Who knows when or if he ever lands another gig on another mega hit show. Keep the money coming in, kid! Especially with bosses who bend over backwards to accommodate you.

Can you imagine him getting harrassed in college and spilling the plot of future episodes while drunk at a party?

.........or watching it with a bunch of roommates and spoiling it as the episode goes on.
