My husband can't stand him. Says he looks like a slob that just rolled out of bed (even now, with his "new and improved" styling). Months ago, one of the commercials came on and my husband went on some tirade about the guy and I was like "he doesn't look that bad to me.......".

Then, we discovered via social media that apparently lots of people felt the same as my husband, only validating his beliefs, which he continues to share in an unsolicited manner with me

Eeeew, I was going to start a thread about how awful he looks! He looks like he hasn't slept for days and has an incurable disease, too. Or maybe he's a recovering druggie. Or maybe he just had root canal surgery. Don't his clothes look dusty, too?

Guess different tastes make the world go round!

I mean, Trivago guy is attractive, but it just looks like he's trying too hard with his hipster clothes. To me, he kind of looks like the male equivalent of a 45 year old Mom who shops in the juniors section with her teenage daughter.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

He looks charming to me and my initial thought is that he's attractive and got my attention. My husband nicknamed him 'torso' whenever his commercial comes on DH says 'there's torso'

Here I was thinking I was the only one who thought he was attractive and the only one whose husband made fun of him lol.

Originally, I had this image in my mind that this was some foreign based website (I'd never heard of it) and the actor/spokesman was from another country--and that they had dubbed an American-sounding voice-over into the commercial. That explained in my mind why he seemed kind of "off" by the typical standards of polished, Madison Avenue spokesmen. One of my friends suggested he might not even be a real person, but a computer-generated image.
But my eyebrows did indeed rise a bit when I saw the second wave of commercials, where he'd gotten a nifty haircut and some new clothes. I thought he was marginally attractive first time around, but he looks mighty good in the new ads.

Something about those ads still seems kind of "off," though. Can't put my finger on it.

Here's a CNN article with all you want to know about Trivago guy. Obviously, since this article is "Does Trivago guy need a makeover", they must have listened.

OH! It's a GERMAN company, and the guy is an American actor who lives in Germany.

Maybe that look is more popular in Europe, which is where I think OP lives.

I had NO clue who or what you were talking about so I looked him/it up.
Rolling Stone actually did a story on him last summer: The Trivago Guy: Meet Tim Williams, 'Sloppy, Sexy as Hell' Spokesperson | Rolling Stone
He's got a nice voice.
