I believe Danny was killed at the end of season 1 or possibly the very beginning of season 2. He was shown in season 2 in flashbacks.

About 15 minutes in to Season 1 episode 1 John is hauling a dead Danny through the muck while narrating in the past tense. So much of season one and maybe 2 are sort of looking back.

Yeah the whole story is being told in the past tense, but IN the timeline of the past tense, I am seeking to know when and why that other guy was killed. The cop who was engaged to the sister. I assume he came across evidence and the other brother whacked him, but I do not remember that at all from Season 2
