When did TV lose respect for family viewers?
I cannot even let the TV Guide Channel scroll through while my 4 year old son is nearby, bc of trashy shows like Surreal Life using the b-word & so on. I can understand, well sorta, these shows being on VH1, MTV & the channels that I even grew up with being slimy at times, but c'mon, most channels need to stay Family friendly during day & evening hours. Night is different, adults do their thing.
TV Guide Channel, I am sick of you. Even when Joey Fatone feels the need to let Lisa Rinna know that she won't be winning any "Sag" award anytime soon while clearly looking right at her cleavage. Yuck.
I'm almost at the point of ditching Cable & just watching movies, I'm tired of the disrespect for families with children.

I hear what you're saying. We did a little experiment last year. I had our Direct tv suspended for 3 months. It was really great b/c we had a lot more family time and I gave the money I would have spent on it to my church. I realized that after a few days I really didn't miss it.

Even when watching a family show, it's hard to miss the trash when they show it on every commercial break.

Another suggestion - if you don't have tivo or dvr - get it. We NEVER watch regular tv any longer. Never see commercials. We record what we want and watch it when it's convenient. Can't even think of the last time we "flipped" through channels. If I want to see what might be on or coming on, I pause, hit the guide and look ahead at the shows and hit info.
You can also block any channel you want so if you are flipping through the shows, they wouldn't even come up.

Well, what I'm getting at here is that no matter WHAT channel is on, the trash is there. And yes the programmers shoud cater to viewer's tastes.
If I want to see what is playing, I tune it to the TV Guide Channel, where I find loads of trash. To me, in my opinion, at least that channel should tone it down, bc obviously a variety of viewers will scroll through to see what is on. And yes, young kids are present.

I like the Tivo or DVR idea myself.

It just seems assinine that we finally get away from the Idiot Box (that's what I called the TV back when I was 3) only to log onto CD and talk more about it here!

I'm sick today and spending the day at home. So I have an excuse.

Don't you think the programmers know their viewers' tastes?
Knowing that stuff is how they make their money, after all.
It sounds like you are struggling with the fact that your tastes/values are not shared by the majority of TV viewers.

What does the TV Guide Channel bring to the table that just hitting the "guide" button and seeing all the shows playing now and coming up doesn't do?
