I almost forgot to post about this one, but will anyone be tuning in Friday to "Emerald City" on NBC? It looks interesting to me.

The 10-episode series, premiering Jan. 6 on NBC, is an off-kilter, weird, dark takeoff on “The Wizard of Oz,” which expands that classic’s universe with a multi-layered storyline (and new characters) while retaining a few of the iconic elements — including Dorothy (Adria Arjona, Emily from “True Detective”) and her faithful dog.
This sounds very interesting. And the 'dark' elements actually fit when you consider the books. The hollywood movie was a lot more sun shiny than the book, and some of the books about Dorothy's adventures were quite dark. He was writing about people (with Dorothy's portrait) who didn't live in an easy world, and she's not so innocent as the movie makes her. And the worlds of Oz are not safe cheerful places either. Doing the story with a 'dark' caste is entirely proper.
I'm glad to see this finally get on TV. It was supposed to on the air years ago but the project got scrapped. Then it was revived a couple years ago, and now it's just a few hours away from debuting. I hope it's has some success. With Grimm coming to an end, something has to fill that fantasy void.
My one rule for remakes: If you're going to do a remake, do something different. This definitely looks different. I'll be tuning in for sure, at least for the first episode or two. The show definitely looks like: What if George R.R. Martin had written The Wizard of Oz?

I watched it. It was very different. There were things I liked and things I didn't like. I see how they were going for the Game of Thrones style but it was like they tried too hard to do that. The Scarecrow (Lucas) was my favorite thing about the show. My least favorite thing was The Wizard. I loved the witches. I think they could have done a bit better with casting Dorothy. I needed just a little stronger performance from her.
I liked the show but the Wizard's Midwestern accent kind of bugged be until I remembered the original movie Wizard was from Omaha.
