Anyone see this tonight? I wanted to get the dialogue going here.

The first two hours are just finishing up on my NY-PBS station. For someone who wanted to be in the Navy [but couldn't quite pass the eye test ], it's a cool show!

You might also be interested in "Supercarrier" which used to be a series. Tom Clancy wrote a book "Carrier" and "Submarine". I could lead you to other books and films you might enjoy.

USN, 1988-1992

TKramar - Thanks for the referrals! I love Tom Clancy's books. I'll certainly check them out.

What was your duty in the USN?

I started out in V-4 Aviation Fuels on the aircraft carrier Coral Sea...but I cross-rated to IC (Interior Communications Electrician). I was based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

I was flipping channels and saw this show on, then remembered seeing the comments about it here. I watched for a little bit, and it's a really great program! I recommend it to everyone else out there that is interested in what the day to day life is like for sailors.

I hope they repeat it again. I was gone the night it was on and forgot to tape it. I think one of my nieces was on that ship around the same time.

During Viet Nam, was in a Destroyer Escort Group out of San Diego, CA. Have never been on a Carrier, but did escort the Kitty Hawk CVA among others over in Nam. I knew what Navy/Destroyer life was like, but this Show about the Nimitz was truely interesting!!
Actually, I should have stayed in the Navy! I could have retired out as a full Commander......if I got lucky.

I watched this entire series and really enjoyed it. I think it gave people who have not been in the military an idea how day to day life is on a ship. I hope they repeat it as I missed two hours of it and would love to see them.

My oldest is thinking about enlisting. When I came across this series on PBS a couple of weeks ago, I was frozen to it. The boy got to see a few episodes and I could tell he was into it as well. He still wants to go see the recruiter, so it must have been a good show for him!
