IMDbTV movies on Amazon usually come with 90 seconds of commercials every 15-20 minutes to watch for free. We tried watching an IMbTV movie on Amazon and in order to view it we had to watch the ads. I love Bosch but if that is the format for the spin-off, and I’m guessing it will be, I’ll pass.

Maybe it's because I grew up on network TV, but honestly, I have learned to tune out the commercials, take a bathroom break, get a drink, read a few pages in a book, etc. So I'd much rather have more Bosch with occasional commercials than no Bosch at all.

But the fact that it is on a streaming service is hopefully a good thing. In traditional TV, every show had to be very strictly structured. For a 1 hour show, you open with a teaser of no more than 3-4 minutes, then go to commercial. Then you get Act 1, which is allowed to run only 7-10 minutes before you have to break for commercial again. Rinse and repeat till your time is up. It made for VERY formulaic TV due to the time constraints.

Streaming TV doesn't have that issue. Even if they still have to structure around commercials, they aren't as shackled to the time constraints of individual scenes. It makes for the opportunity for better writing.

I grew up watching network TV also, but prefer not to go backwards. Watching streaming programs with commercial interruptions is telling providers it’s okay. If this type of format gets support, we will start by paying to watch commercials on premium content and then it will migrate to include all content eventually. Essentially we will be paying for the old newtwork TV that at least used to be free over the air. I accept commercials with free programming, but absolutely not when I’m paying a monthly fee for a streaming service.
