Agree. I have high hopes for this. Production values seem off-the-chart, casting looks good, the story is intriguing. I have the same hopes for the Lord of the Rings series. Production looks amazing on that also.

Yep!!
I remember watching Game of Thrones at first, and I had no idea who was who. I thought Jon Snow and Robb Stark were the same person, they looked so much alike (at least, at first, to me). And the players in King's Landing? Not a chance. I started reading Book One of the
A Song of Fire and Ice series (which is what the first season of the TV series is based on), and had finished by the third or fourth episode. Made a HUGE difference, at least to my easily befuddled mind. I read the other books when the season ended, and it really helped as the show progressed. I know several times my wife (we watched together) would ask me who a character was, or what/where was happening.
I started reading the book this series is based on,
Fire & Blood, for this very reason. I'm about 2/3 thru it. It's a challenging slog. At least the
Fire and Ice books were written as fictional novels.
Fire & Blood is written in the style of a history book, and is called "A History of House Targaryen". It's about as exciting as any history book
. But it is readable, and it's the basis of this series. I think without reading it, I'd be totally lost. I think it might be worth viewers time to at least read some summaries of the era, so they know what they're watching.
Having said that... can't wait!
