we didn't see how Nate came back or how the team switched from being out for blood when they found out he tore the "Believe" Sign to being all "welcome back, buddy!"
My theory is that once Ted showed Beard the security camera video of Nate being stuck in the office for hours, then it got shown to the team.
I've been binge watching this show. Just wrapped up the first season. What a hilarious show. Love the characters, and there are so many great little one liners that will fly by you if you're not paying attention. I stayed away from it for a while, since I'm not a fan of soccer, but I'm glad I gave it a try.
Enjoyed this so much that I just re-watched it from the first episode.
I never rewatch anything. I’m glad that I did though. There were so many things that I missed watching at the first time.
I know I am late to the game, but I am just now getting through Season 3. Something is off. Did the show change writers???
Season 3 isn't not bad, but it is lacking the brilliance of Seasons 1 and 2. Characters are suddenly behaving in inexplicable ways. Nate's change of heart is super rushed and unexplained. And there is a whole sitcomish "here is this week's problem!" that never sullied previous seasons.
Not a bad show at all. But Season 3 was disappointing after the brilliance of Seasons 1 and 2.
It just didn't have the same feel and I attributed some of it to spreading the stories out. Nate leaving the team and Keely starting her own company put the focus on three separate story threads and it just all felt a little unnecessary.
I'd read that the original showrunner (Bill Lawrence from Scrubs, Cougartown, etc.) had left to work on Shrinking, and turned the reins over to Jason Sudeikis. On rewatch, I could skip season 3 entirely, except for the Amsterdam episode.

That explains it. Something was just off in Season 3. Too bad. I consider the first two seasons a real classic. Season 3 was just a typical TV comedy.

I think Nate started having a change of heart when Nate had a heart to heart with his dad, and his dad told him, with tears in his eyes, that Nate was brilliant, and all he wanted for Nate was for Nate to be happy.
Nate ALWAYS wanted his father's approval, and thusly, wanted a father figure who would approve of him and appreciate him. He turned on Ted when he thought Ted wasn't showing him attention anymore.
One of the reasons he worked in the restaurant for so long is because he felt he was GOOD at it, and appreciated. I think it allowed him to rest his mind, (if you will) and get his confidence back, plus it didn't hurt that he got to work with his girlfriend.
