I'm just amazed how little people really understand about what's going on in the financial life of the country. Then it hit me: People are tuning out 4 hours a day in front of the television watching junk, rather than paying attention. A couple of hours a week watching the halfwits running our country into the ground is far more compelling reality television than something as dumb and contrived as the Greatest Race or Survivor.
I know I'll catch flak for this post, but I just had to get it off my chest.
That's ludicrous. You learn almost nothing from watching C-Span. Your time would be far better spent reading the Wall Street Journal and the Economist.

An even better idea. A good book on the subject? Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves To Death. A stunning book on what television has done to the body politic in this country.
I see your point, but I prefer to stare at blank walls. Now, British Parliament has some truly entertaining stuff, but I can't ever seem to find it here. So, my blank wall. Duhhhh. Slobber, slobber, drool.
I get all the news I care to from NPR and Reuters. I am perfectly confident that there is nothing I can do about the financial situation of the country or the choices of the people who run it. Give me Project Runway and Seinfeld any day!
I enjoy watching C-span. I get tired of all the commentary and editorializing. I just want to watch government in action in it's purest form and I also enjoy watching these fat cat CEO's getting grilled without the talking heads trying to scramble my brain. Heaven forbid anyone disect information on their own and form an opinion.
It's unfortunate that the WSJ is now owned by Murdoch/Fox. I used to read it daily.

Dear god! So you're saying that television is ruining this country and making us stupid? Quick, to the Batmobile! We must keep this new and exciting information from the serfs, lest they gain literacy and spend their days watching CSpan and reading books about how television is bad for us!
