You will only get digital channels that are broadcast locally in your area over the air. The usual list of suspects are ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, FOX, and maybe an independant.

There is nothing magical about a digital convertor box. It doesn't let you get cable, or satellite channels for free.

The switch to broadcasting in digital instead of in analog was mandated to free up wireless spectrum so that it could be used for other purposes. Digital signals use up far less spectrum than analog signals. The FCC has already auctioned off the spare spectrum in its 700MHz auction, which raised $19.6 billion for the government.

This auction generated more revenue for the government than any other wireless auction the FCC has ever held. Not a bad tradeoff considering that the government spent a total of about $2 billion to help get people ready for the transition

For 9 1/2 weeks I've been trying to redeem several $40 coupons for seniors living at the local retirement community... to say it's been frustrating is an understatement.

The big names on the list accompanying the coupons like Walmart, Target and Kmart have not had any stock... even had a rain check for Target

Not much sense in providing coupons if the inventory isn't there to support it...

I finally was able to redeem them tonight at a local Radio Shack that had a few come in today... a lot $59.95 vs Targets $44.95... but at least the seniors should be able to use their TV's soon.
