Doesn't matter.

They did a pretty good job of mixing in thriller episodes at a ratio of about 1 to 4. They were fairly disciplined about not mixing the light comedy and the thriller together in one episodes.

But Castle never did particularly well in the ratings, and most of their audience was over 50. They liked to see a dutiful son take care of his mother and the best behaved child on television. It's not Casablanca where the hero must give up his love forever for her sake. I think you write for your audience, and the audience wanted a Hallmark moment.

I will miss the show and the characters. that ending was just way too brutal for the last years of this show. it was desperately and disappointingly written. It was simple drek.

If the show was canceled because of contractual or economic reasons I will observation that most business managers and entertainment managers and bean counters are lower than low. Any management dispute can be resolved but the bean counters are considered gods.

Shakespeare has a character saying, "First we shoot the lawyers." He got it wrong. first we shoot the accountants.

Fortunately I have the DVD's so I can watch these characters but it will all be spoiled by seeing both of them bleeding out on that floor.

Economic reasons are the reasons any show gets cancelled. Viewership was less than 50% than in previous years and without ratings there are no ad dollars. Without ad dollars there is no budget for the show. The finale garnered a 1.3 rating in key demographic and that was a season high. If 1.3 is the best a show can do it wont survive.

It is unreasonable to expect a series to continue when we, the viewers, have abandoned it in such large numbers.
