Is this area filled with all chain restaurants or are there REAL places to eat at such as small private/family owned shops?

Do people support the big corporate chains or do people support the small business owners?

Both.

Like most small cities, we have plenty of chains - and plenty of privately owned shops and restaurants. Tyler is full of people who love to shop, and who love to eat out - the demand for unique boutiques and shops and restaurants as well as the more common goods and food choices of chains is steady around here.

My husband and I just ate at one of our favorite privately owned restaurants a few nights ago and have reservations at another one Saturday night for my birthday. Both restaurants have been in business for at least twenty years here.
