My initial kentucky unemployment benefits were exhausted on April 24. The following day I went to the Kentucky unemployment website and filed a claim for an extension under the EUC program. I was given a confirmation number and a date to file for my first check. Two weeks went by and I attempted to file my bi-weekly claim as instructed. However, when choosing that option I was met with the following message:

"You cannot claim benefits at this time, because you have exhausted your benefits."

I am positive that I qualify for the extension and have not received a notice or letter stating otherwise. It's like the claim I filed just didn't go through at all. Since it's Sunday and the local office is closed, I have to wait until tomorrow to try to get this straightened out. I was wondering if anyone had been in the same situation, and if so how did it all play out?

any opinion, regardless of whether you've been in the exact same situation, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello!

I was in almost exactly the same situation just last week. The only difference being I didn't have to file a claim it was automatic in my state.

The jist of my case was - Tier 1 benefits exhausted, my claim screen stated a message very similar to yours above, scoured the UE website and internet because I too felt I should've moved to the next tier. Spent hours worrying only to log in very late at night, basically the next day, to find that I had been automatically moved to the next tier. I filed my first claim under that tier today!

You can read my post here: //www.city-data.com/forum/unemp...questions.html

Many states will automatically move claimants through the tiers at the appropriate times so I wonder if KY is an automatic state and you opening a claim confused things? I hope it's an easy fix and you'll be on your way soon. Best of luck!

It isn't automatic in KY. You have to file a new claim, but it does just seem like a computer error. I hope it's that simple.
