I had an unemployment claim that would end on 5-27-14. I would like to know if i refile would my claim be approved. I was looking at a friends previous claim and I noticed that she was approved for her new claim even though she had not worked the year while she was collecting unemployed. (She worked from 5/1/2009-7/1/2010 and refiled for unemployment in 7/2011 and was approved with money made in March 2010 and June 2010). I would like to know if I would get approved I worked from 6/2009-5/2013. Any information would help I thank everyone for all their help before hand. (I know that her unemployment lasted so long because at the time she was receiving federal extensions....I just want to know if I have a chance to collect since I received money in March 2013 and June 2013 which is similar to her situation).

Only in CA could this happen. Computer anomaly because of the CA code which does allow a new claim if the week you filed you also earned $1,300.

CA read LAG wages from her last employer posted in the June 2010 quarter as new earnings so qualified her for a second claim. You may or may not have this same result. Lately, CA asks for pay stubs to corroborate exactly when this money was earned. Back in the day (2011), CA may have been more lax.

No way to know, for sure, if CA will approve you. All you can do is try.

When should I file my new claim and have the money I earned in Jan 2013 to June 2013 be considered for the new claim.....The current claim ends 5/27 / 2014

Your claim should expire 5/24, not 5/27. Be that as it may, you can file for another claim the week the current claim expires - even a few days before the bye. It's all right to file a week early.

As I said,

if you have not worked at a new job since you filed in May 2013, CA will very likely not find eligibility.

My claim expires around the time as yours & I got one more message letter from EDD stating to file again on the website OR call my unemployment insurance office 1-5 days before my claim expiration date. You should have gotten your letter just about by now. I sure hope I get approved.

Your situation is entirely different.

You have been working part-time for along while since your claim began a year ago.

YOU WILL BE APPROVED.

Ok I was just wondering because I was told that I just have to had earned at least $1300 in at least one quarter and based upon the quarters I would have earned that in the March 2013 quarter and have the check stubs to show what I made from Jan 2013 to June 2013

No, no. Not for a requalifying/transitional claim. Only for a FIRST CLAIM.

You cannot have TWO claims against the same employer. And, only in CA - AS I SAID IN MY FIRST POST - is there even a possibility and ONLY IF the week you filed your FIRST claim you were also paid $1,300.

DID YOU EARN $1,300 THE WEEK YOU FILED IN MAY 2013???

It is NOT the quarter, it is the WEEK. Which is why CA wants paystubs the second time around.

Reread, carefully, my first post.

If you have not worked since May 2013, you are probably not getting another claim. Very few people do.
