I've been on unemployment since 03/09/14 in Orange County, Ca. I recently received a job offer with a 90 day trial period (full time work). I expect to continue full time after the 90 day trial, BUT in case it does not work out for any reason I want to know that I'm still eligible to receive the same benefits while I continue to look for another position. I am currently receiving the maximum in my state $450 per week. How does this work? Will EDD consider it a temp job?

Whether a job is 'temp' or 'permanent' is completely irrelevant.

If you lose this job after 90 days, call EDD to reopen the claim. Yes, you can continue to exhaust whatever benefits remain.

But only if you lose it for a qualifying reason. If you quit without good cause or are discharged for misconduct, you'll have no paycheck or rights to UI benefits.

It is a rather large company and they are launching a new department. I will be running it in trial with 2 other department heads. If the department makes X amount of money we'll continue expanding it. So basically, I would only be let go if it does not generate the anticipated dollar numbers. Would lack of revenue for the division of the company I'm partially responsible for be under proper qualification?

Yes, you would qualify.

You're on probation. If you don't cut it - you apply to reopen the claim. CA investigates all discharges/terminations. This process can take a couple of weeks. Poor performance/not meeting metrics - unless proved to be intentional - is NOT disqualifying. Even if you get a bad interviewer who won't decide on the issue - assuming your employer even accuses you of misconduct - you win on appeal.

Deal with it when and if it happens.
