Hello everyone, this is my first thread so I apologize if there is a similar thread. This site was very helpful with my first interview which I was extremely nervous about but with all the great advice, I was approved for benefits! I'm in California and I claimed for weeks stating that I had a reason other than sickness to refuse work but that I did not refuse work. Now I'm being scheduled for an interview regarding my answers. I did not refuse any offers of employment but wanted to have some elbow room in case I did have to refuse a temporary job, not a permanent job of course, due to the fact I have a 2 year old. Should I be worried I will get cut off, the weekly amount isn't much but it definitely helps. Wonderful & knowledgeable forum members, please help me. Thanks in advance.

The question is about an ACTUAL job offer. Not about what is suitable for you on any future job offer. You worry about a job refusal when and if you are offered a job. There is no way to preempt explaining an unknown future job offer by saying now you will refuse temporary work as unsuitable.
Tell the interviewer you misunderstood the question, have not been offered a job, and meant to answer no. Do not give any more of an explanation than that.
Never overthink the answers to the questions on a claim form. It's either yes or no - without a qualification.
NEVER use your kids as an excuse. Invariably, you'll get a pass on your kids, and then the system kicks out a denial as "you don't have adequate childcare. You're not able and available."
The statutes read, "a claimant that refuses suitable work without good cause. . ." I can't think of any suitation where someone has "good cause" to refuse work. The reason that people get to refuse the work is because when you know what you're doing you can think of a LOT of reasons to make a job "unsuitable." Just saying that the job is through a "temp" agency makes the job unsuitable because temp work is rarely the prevailing condition of work unless your occupation is "sign twirler at tax time."
Thanks so much for your replies, your advice is very much appreciated!! I've learned so much about this process from this forum so hopefully next time I'll be able to assist someone else. I will do as you advised, thanks again.
Most likely, yes. Did you actually refuse work or just think you did? Once you do "yes," to that question that state has to suspend benefits until they determine if the work was "suitable" or you had "good cause" to refuse.
Most likely yes.. Plan on 1-3 weeks for delay of payment, just in case .. the only time benefits are not stopped is when the DETERMINATION has already been made and the employer appeals.
Thank you for your answers, I truly appreciate it! I have another question, today I interviewed for a company that sells insurance. To work there I have to train for 4 weeks with no pay & obtain an insurance license that costs around $300. In my opinion that's not a job offer since it doesn't pay but I could be wrong. I told them I couldn't afford the classs & license at this time, is this considered a refusal. Please advise, thanks so much.
It's not a job if it doesn't pay from the first hour you work. Further, insurance is commission. Are they offering a base wage after you complete training??? Will you be an employee or an independent contractor?
Don't even report it.
