Hi,
I filed for unemployment back in March. I certified for the first two weeks, but ended up getting a letter that I didn't qualify under the Standard Base Period. It took 6 months for EDD to switch my claim to the Alternate Base Period. Now, finally, I have an open claim. On 9/2 I was finally paid for the weeks I originally certified for (3/28 and 4/4). I have continued to certify, but now I'm not getting the $600. Is the extra $600 retroactive? Seems like it should be. Not my fault to took EDD 6 months to process my claim. I was timely and sumbitted my claim the same day I was laid off due to COVID.
It should be and has been retroactive; however, there are some people saying they've been told by EDD that there will be no more backpay on the $600 "due to fraud". I have nothing solid to back that up yet and seriously hope it's not true because I'm waiting on backpay too. I've been looking for anything that confirms this and haven't found anything yet. Maybe it's just on hold while they do their 2 week re-set thing. I sure hope that's all it is.
I called today and actually talked to a human being. She said I had weeks to certify that needed to be manually added to my claim. Bonkers that it can’t be automated, but whatever. All is good! For now...

That's good to hear. I just checked the web site too and it still says that they are paying the $600 on weeks between 3/29 and 7/25 so hopefully it won't be a problem to get that once everything goes through. I'm keeping a print out of that web page, just in case. It's at the bottom of this page: https://edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronav...s-act.htm#PEUC
I did! But it only retroactively paid 9 weeks. The other weeks are still pending. Called EDD and a tier 2 specialist has to manually fix it. I recommend calling them if you are still waiting. Seems like everything needs to be done manually.
What if I just recently applied, but have been out of work since the end of March? I was hoping to be working by now, so I didn't apply, but savings are dwindling, so I applied yesterday. Would I get retroactive PUA or not?
Technically, you should, but they are no longer automatically backdating PUA claims. You'll need to request it and possibly explain why you believe you qualify for backdating.

Thanks! I guess I really should have filed at the end of March, but I knew there were other people in worse situations and didn't want to clog up the EDD with my claim since had a *bit* of savings. It didn't go far. I thought I'd be working by now. Wasn't even sure I'd qualify anyway. Oh well.
I'll request and see what they say, can't hurt to ask.

Glad to hear you got some of your pay. I'll be trying to call again starting Monday when the phone line for the tier 2 claims specialists is back up and running. I expect it will be a nightmare to get through though.
