I'm sure this has been asked before, but after looking through the first 5 pages I couldn't find anything. Bear with me if this has been discussed at length.

I currently have one week of unemployment benefits left. This is on my original benefit request.

I know they have extensions available (20 weeks I believe).

How do I go about applying for this extension? Is it automatic? Is there a period where I will not receive benefits while this is processing?

I've looked on their site and I do not see instructions on what to do.

Any help is appreciated.

Ah, couldn't find that page when I first looked, thanks a lot.

Hmmm, my benefits run out on the day of their cut-off date is 3/27. I wonder if I will qualify for Tier 1 because technically I have benefits for the week ending 3/20 as my last one of my original UE claim. Then the first week I would have a zero balance would be for the week ending on 3/27.

call the unemployment office and ask them. no info you receive here is ever a fact for each persons specific claim. When it comes to qualifying, your best bet is to ask unemployment. if you cant get thru by phone, you can stop at your most local office. They will clear up your questions real quick for you.

As long as you exhaust your regular unemployment benefits no later than Saturday, March 27, you will be eligible for Tier I. Sunday, March 28, is the last day you can start Tier I under the current cut-off dates.

To answer the questions in your earlier post -- in New Jersey, you should automatically receive your official determination of eligibility for Tier I shortly after you complete regular benefits. Your transition should be seamless, with no gap between regular benefits and Tier I.

If there is a bit of a delay in receiving your written notification, you can always call your local Call Center or visit your local UI office to ask them to confirm that you are eligible for Tier I and ask them about your next call-in date (sometimes your designated reporting day changes when you start collecting extensions).

all you have to do is wait for your letter. It will let you know how many weeks you will receive and the amount. This is the way the extensions work. The Dept of Labor will always send you a letter if you qualify for any extension.

Default Exhausted Benefits.

My boyfriend's benefits were exhausted and could never get a straight answer and almost never got his paperwork saying he was eligible. Here is a number that we were able to get and if you call it they answer ALL of your questions and usually will put your claim through then and there if yo are eligible.

609-292-2460

This is the number of the Unemployment Director of New Jersey's actual office. They are very helpful.
