Based on the many years of posting here on CD and reading the many opinions. rants and nasty partisan hacks, I'd say your best bet on finding an Ape-human creature would be right here on C-D, P&OC, lurking under a pseudonym .

Seriously though, Australia/New Guinea would be my bet as the continent broke off the last supercontinent called Pangaea and species evolved separately from the rest of the planet. The weirdest creatures are found in Australia.

What about the Americas? It has been separated from the rest of the human habited continents, until about 12,000 years ago when the Asians (now referred to as Native Americans) arrived.

If in America, they would have found it and documented it by now, but I will tell you an honest true story.

Back in the late 70s I sponsored a Tibetan Family to come to America. The wife was raised at 16,000 feet and her and her sister would tend a herd of yaks. There is always one female Y.A.K. who is in charge of all the rest and protects the herd and the herders. One day an abominable snowman, half man and half ape and 7 feet tall, came out from behind an outcrop and grabbed her sister around the waist and started to carry her off. the head Y.A.K. charged the snowman and knocked the snowman and her sister off a cliff and they both fell about 30 feet. the snowman limped off up the mountain and the sister had a broken shoulder that never healed properly. She stated that it is a well known Tibetan fact that the snowmen will carry off Tibetan women to breed with them.
I still have a beautiful Tibetan rug her sister wove and other mementos from that time.

Take this story with a grain of salt or whatever but I swear that it is a true and accurate account as told to me.
For some reason Y.A.K. is a banned word on P&OC, that's why the funny spelling.

I completely forgot about the incident and would have picked the Himalayas first had I remembered the story.

In some parts of the world, these ape-human like creatures are not folklore. They are known creatures to these locals, just like say panthers are known creatures to Floridians even though some people have seen it and some people have not.

One can go to the Palm Beach Zoo and see a panther. Where would one go to see the aforementioned creature?
