I live in this house by myself. I have lived here for 5-6 years, never had anything like this happen until now.

My bedroom is on the second floor. all the bedroom doors have key lock doors, and Ive always closed locked my bedroom door when I sleep, not sure why I did this as Im the only one in the house, its just something I feel better doing...

So a few weeks ago I woke up at around 4am to go the bathroom, I noticed my bedroom door was half open and unlocked, this actually frightened me a little bit at first, but that night, I just closed it and re-locked it and didnt think too much about it after that.

It happened again a week later, I talked to some friends about it and they think I could be sleep walking during the night, so they suggested putting a fine mist of baby powder on the hardwood floor around the door area, and if Im sleep walking, my footprints will be left behind...

Ive been putting down baby powder for awhile now and it happened again last night, except that no footprints on either side of the door.

Whats interesting, the door locks require a key from the outside and from the inside, you have to turn a little dial to lock/unlock it, when I examined the door after I found it open, the dial was turned to the unlock position, so that means, the door could not have just opened on its own (like if it wasnt level or something), that dial WAS turned at some point.

BTW, the door is level and does not move on its own, it will stay in whatever position you leave it.

Do you have pets? If not, I’d lock it during the day, to see if happens during the day, then I’d get a camera set up to video it. The light would be better to see that’s going on.

The reason I ask about pets, my cats sleep on our bed. I wouldn’t deprive them.

There was a guy in the building I used to clean who complained that the door to the balcony in the second bedroom was opened every night. He kept locking it, made sure it was secure, and in the morning, it would be open. Fourth floor, definitely no illicit access.

The place was being used as a short term business rental, and had a lot of residents, and I talked to a number of them, who would have said SOMETHING.

No pets here.

I find it most strange that something like this hasnt happened sooner, something must have recently happened to trigger whatever it is..( I guess?)

***Im hesitant to add this, but its the only other strange thing that I have experienced here, and it was close to a year ago, but that incident, I woke up in middle of night to use the bathroom and looked out my window as I normally do, just to see what the weather is like, this was about 4am, it was a light misty rain, low clouds, and I saw what looked like those big advertising lights they shine into the sky for special events, except there were 4 of them, continuously making the same pattern, over and over again, they would start in the center, expand out, and then go in a circular motion, then return to the center and start over. (about a 20ft dia circle), Im still not sure what that was, I know it wasnt advertising lights, because of the time of night and nothing significant was going on in the area...these lights were doing this above my backyard, within the low clouds. Although I didnt see a craft or even the outline of a craft, I had the impression these lights were attached to 'something' that was sitting in the low clouds.

I think my next step is trying to figure out a way to put a motion activated video recording device in my room, Ive heard there are cell phone apps that can utilize my cell phone video recorder, but not sure if that would work or not. I do have an older late 90s camcorder, but I dont think it will record for the entire night (7-8 hours), I think each tape is only like 1 hour at the most.

RStevens62, you have some kind of woo going on there, that's I can tell ya!

There's an answer to all this and a security camera sounds like a good approach. It can cost but if I were you I'd spend the bucks. My curiosity would be that high to figure it out.

Good luck with it and keep us posted.

Most odd ... and you say there were no footprints on the baby powder? I dont see how the door can become unlocked by itself unless you do it without realising. Many of the mysteries we have been asked about on here can be explained away by water spills or wind blowing etc but there must be some places where the other realities impinge on ours in some way. Maybe yours is one such case? Been doing any occult practices or anything like that?

So, what about getting one of these mini cameras for about 10 dollars. Many sellers give a free delivery to the USA and it is motion activated, the video going onto a 32Gb TF card. The only problem might be that the battery only lasts around 90 minutes and I am not sure if you can drive it continuously through a plugged-in USB lead. For 10 dollars or thereabouts(18 for camera+32Gb TF card), it must be worth a shot.

Similar camera showing night pictures.

Yea, its really strange, like I mentioned in one of the posts above, it takes a key to unlock the door from the hallway, on the inside you have to turn a little knob to unlock it...this knob WAS turned to the unlock position, and I spread the baby powder about 5-6ft area of the door, so it would not be possible to stand there and reach the knob and not leave any tracks in the powder. ( I think this alone proves it is unexplainable).

I just read your post and you are brave to live in a house by yourself with no pets! A dog would surely bark to let you know if something is going on. A security camera should give you an answer. Look on Amazon, you can get a variety of prices and reviews to let you know if the camera is easy to set up and if it’s junk or not. Set it up somewhere in the hall to record all night, then let us know what you find.

Rstevens, if you use the key from the outside, does that automatically turn the knob on the inside to the unlock position?

Yes, it does.

However, the only key is on my key ring, which I keep at my desk, in the bedroom.
