You can just send it via the bank. You will need their acct details, sort code / swift code. Your own branch will tell you what you need.

I don't think I have ever bought an engagement present. Most people I know have just got engaged and at the same time announced the date they would marry and so I've just got them a wedding gift.
If people were getting engaged and moving in together then I would get a gift but this hasn't happened to anyone whose wedding I've been to as they have already been living together.....

Ditto - wiring the money is probably the safest option. Just remember you'll be charged a fee and so will your recipient.

I can't remember, do Brits buy engagement presents or do we wait for the main event? It's been so long since any of my friends actually got married.

I've always waited for the main event. When hubby and I got engaged we just had drinks with a few close friends and there was no present buying..... however at the time we announced the engagement we also announced the wedding date (ish) and had already been living together, oh and were in our 30's. I guess if the people getting engaged are young and setting up home and waiting to get married it might be different.... generally I guess if you get invited to an engagement party then you would give a gift...

Wire fee will be between $30 - $50 depending on the bank.

My bank charged me $40 to wire money to the UK. I now use an online service that charge $4.99 and the money will go directly into the person's account. You will need to input the account number and sort code. Not sure, if I can mention the name of the service. DM me if you would like the name.

Does it have to be cash? I'd maybe order a present off a British website and have it delivered to their house, otherwise if you wire it, it'll work out very expensive.

As for how much it depends on what relation they are - if its just a distant cousin or something i wouldnt spend more than $50.

I would only usually get an engagement present/money if they held a party, even then not always depending on what my relationship was with them
