I'm British South Indian and gay and I just find the whole thing too much. (People say that I'm being racist, but if you grow up somewhere like the UK, Pakistanis are defacto chavvier than Asians/Hindus/etc, and I have never even considered that Pakistanis might be considered attractive before 1D)
1) I don't find North Indians/Middle Easterners attractive and I usually stereotype them as ugly. By promoting Zayn/Pakistanis, it's a whole load of **** like colourism that I won't usually need to worry about, and in the end if Pakistanis are ugly, surely it's a form of hate against South Indians? It's not as if Zayn is particularly talented like many blacks are.
2) As a Brit, I never racially grouped myself with Pakistanis, and I feel culturally closer to East Asians. I don't consider them to be South Asian, but actually Middle Eastern, and I only associate with North Indians over Hinduism. I therefore associate people who support pro-pakistani racism with anti-south-indian racism.
3) I dont see why people defend Pakistanis when I post stuff like this, but totally allow Pakistanis to be racist to Indians. I grew up in the UK when a lot of classism and racism against them was present, yet I never once said a bad word about them (even little things like saying they were ugly).
4) Why is being so Muslim acceptable? If I tried to do the same with Hinduism or Buddhism then I would be branded a racist. I don't see why they deserve any sympathy and then be allowed to be to introverted, but if I went Hindu nationalist or Buddhist nationalist, I'd be told off!
It's racist because it's pro-pakistani (positive discrimination).
The positive discrimination remind me of the United States' policy of trying to discourage anti-black racism abroad (a.k.a in real life, it was positive discrimination).
The situation reminds me of Bollywood racism, something I thought wouldn't be mimicked in the west. I stereotype North Indians and Pakistanis as ugly, and many second generation South Indians think the same.
People saying I'm "racist" are being biased towards Pakistanis; I've seen countless threads where Pakistanis bash South Indians as ugly, and racism from Pakistanis against South Indians is thick and plentiful. I've never managed to make a single Pakistani friend in real life despite living in the UK since birth.
The media is being ridiculously liberal towards Muslims. In the UK, there's usually a fair amount racism, classism and islamaphobia aimed at Pakistanis/Muslims, and Islam is getting far more positive coverage due to liberal outlets than any other minority religion. Sexual racism in LGBT would place Pakistanis near the bottom of attractiveness, with Indian and Blacks.
