Including themselves along with everyone else. Is power that can never really be used to advance an agenda that much use?

It's a bit like the European empires of the 19th and very early 20th centuries; both being somewhat hollow in a real sense. For example, until 1918 the island of New Guinea was split between Britain and Germany, but neither set foot outside a very few isolated locations on the coast. It wasn't unit the latter half the of 20th century that the vast majority of the local population ever saw a person of European stock. Similarly the French in Indio China, where the countryside beyond a few large centres was always controlled by the local inhabitants.

It depends on your 'agenda' and how much of a lunatic you are. It certainly means that countries with nuclear warheads have the power to defend themselves against 'any' foe, in my book that's a 'superpower', lets all be thankful that the superpowers (those with nuclear warhead capabilities) are all pretty 'benign' countries NOT hell bent on 'invade and conquer' (N. Korea on the other hand....).

In a way it still is, I think (not sure) the British nuclear deterrent is all submarine based? That way the nuclear warheads can't be targeted (I believe). That is my understanding anyway.

Hi. Just reading these posts. Most Americans are totally disgusted with the party politics; want the democrats to shut up, the Republicans to quit getting their knickers in knots, help rebuild the country infrastructure...and how about some really good health care...all around...especially for senior citizens?

(I realize this is a pondering on the US, but noted some discussion in this area, here.)
