The Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is standin in for the PM, however the Cabinet which is made up of numerous ministers in charge of different departments and with different portfolios run the country and the PM is merely first among equals.

The PM is also not the Head of State in the UK, as that is the role of the Monarch.

Some PM's such as Tomy Blair appoint Deputy Prme Ministers (John Prescott was Deputy PM under Blair) whilst Nick Clegg was Deputy PM under David Camerons first term in office, however it's up to the PM.

In such circumstances where a Deputy PM has not been appointed , it's normal for one of the Great Offices of State to take over the PM role.

Afeter the Prime Minister the great offices of state are the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary and Home Secretary.

As for Boris, I wish him all the best and a speedy and full recivery from this awful virus.

It's very good news that Boris has as yet not required a ventilator. I'm hoping his move to ICU was one of pre-emptive caution befitting his position as an elected leader of a country.

The man shows a side of politics we need to see emulated elsewhere around the word today. Someone with conviction steadfastly forging ahead and working hard to convince others rather than arrogantly simply ignoring all naysayers.

I have the sense that he listens to his opposition and gives consideration where it deserves to be given.

He got sick after he boasted about shaking hands with coronavirus patients in the hospital. He should've known better. The virus is highly transmissible through fluids, and patients are often sweaty.

A mechanical ventilator requires putting him in a medically-induced coma. Because of his position, they will wait longer before they commit to a step that has a very low survival rate and will make him incapable of serving even if he survives.

It still constantly amazes me how many ICU experts on here hid there light under a bushel until this pandemic erupted.
Who'd have known ...

If ventilators don’t help then why are some of the governors in USA demand 40,000 of them. I don’t understand.

Well, it's not as if we don't read it almost everywhere we turn these days! I, too, am hoping they are being honest when they say that they're just being extra careful. While I'm not 100% for him, and I do remember his first theory about just sitting about and letting the virus run its course, while he's shaking hands with people and not keeping his distance, I still admire him. No politician is perfect and no one knew what to do early on.

He's a great speaker, imho, a strong leader, he's dxxx stubborn, and he's the kind of man a country needs in these uncertain and frightening times. Let's hope for a good outcome for this man.

i was of a similar opinion in early march, not so much now. This has evolved much faster than most of us could have forecast

i wish him a speedy recovery, i need him back in the PMs office so i can carry on being critical

Bojo is an interesting character. Ever since I heard the famous protoplasmic supine inverterbrate jellies line, I thought he was kind of cool. Hope he gets better soon.
