Hi, I will be landing at the Manchester airport on a Friday morning at the end of June, as part of a business trip. I've never been to the Lake District, and am considering taking the train into the Lake District from Piccadilly Station to spend the weekend there. I believe there is a train that connects the airport with the train station in Manchester? If so, which town in the Lake District should I stay in? Considering that I don't have a car, and will need to depend on the train to get me there? I am looking to relax, get some fresh air, take some walks around the lake, and take it easy. I will be going back to MAN on Sunday, so I do need to book two nights in the Lake District, so which town should I stay in? Thanks so much for your help with this.
Windermere is in the heart if the lake district and is served with good transport connections (including to Manchester) as well as accommodation and shops.

Thanks a million, and forgive my ignorance - may I please confirm, from Piccadilly Station do I take a direct train to Oxenholme? And then from there a local train to Windermere? Would that work? If so, it would be easier for me to go by train all the way, because I am not familiar with the bus stops and will have a suitcase to carry along.

There are a few direct trains however most will require a change, probably at Oxenholme, and in terms of the station it is Manchester Piccadilly rather than Victoria.
It should take an hour and a half to two hours, although that all depends if you have to change and how long you have to wait for a connecting train.

From Manchester Piccadilly, take a train to Oxenholme, then transfer to Windermere.
