That looks like the El Cortez in San Diego, but the one on the left is out of place.

The building on the left is a hotel which recently changed ownership. (Think midwest)

Nope, not Mpls. You probably saw the skyway so it's understandable. Though not having the famous opening credits, this video shows the building used for WJN tv studios (it's at 8th & Nicollet) and construction fence at left is for the IDS Center

If that's where I think it is, two and a half years ago my wife and I stayed a couple blocks north on Dodge and walked past it on the way to the Old Market. Omaha. That tall building is the Woodmen's.
