Not just that-but NYC and the surrounding area (including LI and northern NJ) has more than 10 times as many CV-19 cases as the next highest entire state! Including entire states with populations significantly larger than NY.
The other larger states don’t have the testing capacity of NYC, so that isn’t an accurate statement. We know that NYC has a lot of cases, but in places like FL, they simply don’t have access to the test. I have one friend who said most of the people in his immediate family got sick and he tried to get a test for his daughter who was the sickest after her test came back negative for strep (I guess they had flu shots), but they were told it was not available and to self quarantine.
Dense urban spaces, public transit, the filthy unwashed masses. Super spreaders who cause hundreds to get infected, simply by taking an uber from the subway to the store?
Will newer, suburban, auto-centric cities weather this Chinese plaque better? Will there be enough land to bury the dead in NYC, SF, Boston, and Chicago? The End is near, and I fear no one will be spared from loss in some way. God be with you.
Not really. As bad as COVID-19 is (and will be), it's NOTHING like the benefits of a walkable lifestyle, less environmental destruction (even just the human effects), etc.
Covid-19 has exposed the United States dependence on Chinese drugs and the need for us to take back our ability to make pharmaceuticals and medical device in America.
no, it has exposed the ills of austerity and the importance of a public safety net .
No public safety net would stop what's currently going on.
My answer is yes, it certainly exposes obvious problems of urbanity. I'm not totally down on urbanity, just being honest and realistic.
Fatalities attributed to the virus suggest NYC is the epi center. No test needed though they do help and produce differences if one is looking at number of cases.
Hell yeah, at least now people will realize that living on top of each other isn't really a great idea when it comes to public health..
With respect to owning a car and not using public transportation, with the predictions that people will gravitate towards electric cars in the next 20 years, the carbon footprint is greatly reduced too.. There is nothing wrong with owning a house with a yard and having a car and being able to drive to any place you want..
