Michigan has one, but it is not set up the same way. It is a designation to a town or city and it opens up resources that they might not otherwise be able to afford. It gives them 5 years of a dedicated trained person to help market the town, and revitalize the town. To preserve the historic aspects of the towns and how to grow and prosper in this economy. There are only 5 places picked a year. MHAL - Michigan Main Street Program (http://www.michigan.gov/hal/0,1607,7-160-17449_18638_34474---,00.html - broken link) Michigan Main Street

Sounds very similar....I'm not sure if the state itself invests in the communites or just offer funding. I think it is open to any community, unlike Michigan, where it seems like a certain amount of communities at a time get funding and investment.

Virginia has it, but I have no idea how it works. Just never gave it much thought except seeing the signs coming into town. I'm sure it's similar to other state's programs.

West Virginia towns have there own programs like a Main Street Program!

Charleston has projects such as "East End Main Street"
which is responsible for "cleaning up" the east end of town

It has been a great accomplishment for that city.

I am a member of the Clendenin Heritage Group. We do the same
