Hey I was wondering if anyone has any information about Cedar City?

I'm thinking of transferring to Southern Utah University and was wondering what the city is like.

Is it possible to get around without a car?

Is there shopping (both retail and grocery) in close proximity to the campus?

Whats the campus like?

Is there any crime in the area?

Any nightlife scene?

Anything else I should know about?

THANKS!

Possible, but difficult. There is a shuttle/taxi service, not many bike lanes in the middle of town, and would not be practical in the snow. Lots of walking! If you live close enough and only need to shop once a week, doable I am sure!

Look on Google Earth or Google Maps. If you live East of the Campus, you can feasibly walk to downtown or the 2 closest markets.

Whats the campus like?
Beautiful! Some old classic buildings, they are building a new Science Building now. Has mature trees and grass. Having the Shakespear Festival there means there is a "theater in the round" right in the middle of campus. It has a small home town comfy feel. The area is surrounded by older neighborhoods with a lot of B and B's.

Is there any crime in the area?
Not really, I am sure you can look up the stats somewhere, but Cedar has a very low crime rate.

Any nightlife scene?
Not really, there is one local "bar" that has live music several miles from campus and one bar closer. Most go to Mesquite to party.

Anything else I should know about?
Cedar is a great town, and SUU a great college. It is a "wholesome" lifestyle for the most part, not a lot of partying, lots of hiking and sports activities.
THANKS!
Good Luck!
