Comparing Logan to Utah County is like comparing California to Utah. You're not comparing apples to apples. I have nothing against Utah County. I just like have Utah State in my backyard and the diversity that it brings.

(1) While we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are only partially active – Jack Mormons is the common term. Logan is a small, isolated city with a LONG Mormon history. We worry that hard core believers in Logan will reject us while the non-Mormons and ex-Mormons will view us with distrust. Any thoughts on this?

(2) Right now we live in a city in the Midwest with a great deal of newcomers. Nearly everyone is from somewhere else and is generally interested in meeting new people. We worry (a) that there will be very few newcomers in Logan and (b) People will have 6 generations of family ties in the area and thus won’t have time to make new friends. My wife and I lived in Utah County about 10 years ago and while our neighbors were “nice” they were too busy with birthday parties, baptisms, missionary farewells/returns, etc. to actually socialize with people not related to them. Here’s how my wife explains the difference: In Utah County when she would take one of the kids to story time at the library, nearly all the women were there with a sister or cousin. In our current town, the women come to story time alone and are eager to meet new friends. What’s the situation with newcomers in Logan? Are people interested in socializing with people outside of their circle of family?

Of course all of this depends on how hard you try to meet new people and how you conduct yourself. We’re just looking for some general trends from people that live or have lived in the area.

we're jack mormons... started to become less and less active after moving to Logan. It doesn't have to do with people, but it's my own attitude.

Yes you will encounter that people will not have time for you. not everyone, but more people. Everyone else is busy with their 5+ kids. we only have 2.

We don't try hard to meet with people though, because we know we wouldn't be living in Logan forever. That is also the feeling I get from others though, that since we aren't going to be here forever, there is no real need to get to know each other.

That said.... I've enjoyed my time in Logan these past 3 years. We've made 1 (yes count them) 1 good family/friends. People are very nice here. we eat out a lot and there aren't many options. But Logan is growing.

We live up at USU, the bus system is free which is nice. Good Luck!
