Hello, my family is considering relocation to Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a liberal, democrat female of mixed race (mostly white), my fiance is a conservative republican also white. We have two boys (5 years and an infant). I really need some help finding a neighborhood with EXCELLENT schools.

We currently live on Long Island with some of the best schools in the country (our HS was top 100 on US News last year), my fiance went to an ivy league school, and I went to a top 50 university. Education is top priority for us.

I suppose our ideal neighborhood might be one family friendly, excellent schools, lots to do (YMCA, Sports- great hockey resources as our son plays, parks, etc.), Catholic Church (as we are Roman Catholic), and close to the financial district of SLC.

Any suggestions on schools and/or neighborhoods? We will probably rent for 6 months - 1 year just to be sure we want to stay in the area.

I'm going to suggest the area known as 15th and 15th. It seems to fit pretty much all of your criteria. I'm sure the move will be something of a culture shock to you, but I hope you end up liking it here. If you are still here when your kids are high school age, Judge Memorial is a Catholic High school with an excellent reputation. I'm curious... have you ever been out here before?
