Greetings!

I'll be retiring in two or three years and plan to settle somewhere south of I-70 and East of 15 within a 1-2 hour driving range of Capitol Reef/Canyonlands/Etc... I'm travelling to Utah in February and plan to do some scouting and maybe connect with a realtor who can help me find:

10+ acres
Scenery
Water (well or other)
Electricity
Solitude
not necessarily in that order.

I'd like to avoid Moab and similar touristy places, but have access to things like groceries, building materials and medical facilities. I have no problem making a trip for these things, just want to avoid the crowds whenever possible.

Any advice on where to start? I'll have about 5 days to poke around this trip.

Thanks in advance!

Bob. Take me with you. LoL. I took a road trip last August and cut right through Moab, and many desert scenes on the way to Texas and back again to Seattle. Prior to that trip, i was all about the mountains, but who knew that from that time to this day, it wold be an all consuming dream of mine, to somehow make my way back..

You might want to consider somewhere around either Torrey or Boulder. You can't get an area that is much less populated or much more beautiful and still have access to civilization. Have you driven over Highway 12 before? This is the area I'm thinking of.

I spent a weekend in Torrey a few years back during the winter and didn't want to leave. I had CR to myself both days and couldn't get over the peace and solitude I experienced. Didn't get a chance to drive 12 but it's on my agenda for my upcoming trip.

I'll take a look at Boulder too, thanks for the info!
