Hi. I am from a small town in Northern New York and am looking for change to improve my life. I was hoping some of you may have ideas of where good places to start over may be.

About me, I am 30 years old. I have a bachelor's degree in theater arts and have finished about half of a masters degree in global studies. My job history has been a bit all over the place and unremarkable. I worked in a gas station for about 4 years, substitute teaching for 3, I have had a few delivery jobs and some inventory work.

In addition to this I have a TEFL certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which I received in Prague, and I spent 6 months doing missionary work in Quebec and French Polynesia.

I live in a small village in an area with not many opportunities. I want to live somewhere that's not too big, but some place where there is opportunity to both work as well as to explore and experience new things.

Also, I know Utah is heavily Mormon, I am a protestant Christian so finding a good place to worship is an important factor.

Well, if you're looking for a change, Salt Lake City would be that. Would you want to complete your Master's at the University of Utah, or is that not part of your plans? The "U" has an excellent theater program and an excellent regional theater (Pioneer Memorial Theater).

Salt Lake City is a nice place. You might like it a lot. Finding a Protestant church (pretty much any denomination you want) should not be a problem at all. I'd try to have a job lined up before you move, though.

The Masters degree is the hard part. I take courses from Liberty University which is a Christian school. I did a year on campus but the course offerings for my degree are mainly online, which does not work for me. I definitely would love to get my masters, but I have to figure out the best way to do that and not get too much more debt.

Sorry to let you know Tommy, but Mormons are the ultimate Protesting Christians !!
They did not agree with anyone and created their own groupe by restoring the truth !!!

What do you know about the *Mormons* ?
They are Christians, they did protest in a way, and you said : "finding a good place to worship is an important factor."

Their places of worship are pretty nifty. They even have a kitchen in it, which I thought was for decoration only until I found out they do use it to warm up stuff for weddings and ward dinners ... I have never seen anybody actually create a decent meal in them !

They also have a little pool somewhere in the back of the building and once and while they use it, to dunk or immerse people in it ...

If you take me as being serious, you do have a problem !

The best advice that I could give you is if you decide you do want to move here than find a job first.

Jobs in Utah are abundant, but tend to pay low wages. There are many complaints that the cost of housing is too high given these low wages.

I would look in and around the Salt Lake City area, but I would make no commitments about moving until I could assure myself of a decent wage and an affordable place to live.

The LDS consider themselves Christian and will be insulted when you say/imply they are not.

Yes, we would be insulted, but I don't believe the OP did imply that we're not. If I'm wrong and that's what he meant, I'd be happy to take him on.

I don't know if this is the proper place for theological discussion, though if people want to discuss the issue of Mormonism I will.

It's not, so please don't.

As I said before, I didn't take your post to mean that Mormons are not Christians. If that is what you believe, it's certainly your prerogative, though. I think the best advise anybody here can give you on that particular topic is that if you don't believe Mormons are Christians, it would be to your advantage to keep your feelings to yourself (except in talking to individuals you know share your opinion). If you do that, you can exist quite comfortably and happily in the Salt Lake City area.

More comfortable, perhaps. But it would be a dereliction of duty to keep my mouth shut.
