This is my first post on this board although I've been lurking for about a year. Yes, we're considering moving to the PNW. One of the types of areas we've always liked are historic neighborhoods. I've observed that the Hough neighborhood is frequently mentioned, as well as downtown Camas. I've looked around Hough in Google street views and it looks kind of dumpy (sorry if I offend anybody). I'd say that 1 in every 7 or 8 houses looks "nice". Some homes are beyond redemption; however, most looked like they've undergone several non-permitted add-ons with little concern for asthetics. Some homes are nice - but not many.

My questions are:
Is this a correct observation?
What other historic areas are in Vancouver?

I just want to know if I should eliminate this idea as an option. Thanks for your responses!

Honestly, to me, the only historic neighborhood in Vancouver is Officer's Row. It's a cute small area with beautiful homes.

Are you looking to moving a place with lots of storied history? I would say Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane have better historic neighborhood options than Vancouver does.

The historic issue isn't a deal killer. My wife doesn't want to move to Seattle area. We're attracted to Vancouver for a variety or reasons. Just trying to narrow down our search criteria.

I agree that Officer's Row area in Vancouver is about the only "historical" neighborhood in town. Downtown Vancouver is older, but I wouldn't say it's exactly historic.
Camas has a cute downtown, that area has been growing a lot, especially between there and East Vancouver. You could get more bang for your buck in the Washougal area, but that is definitely more rural.

Lincoln, Carter Park, East Evergreen near "Igloo/ deaf school" are lower rent districts and 'historic' for Vancouver

I'll google those areas and take a look. This is in preparation for a future trip to scout areas.

I'm from Phoenix which was settled much later than areas of the PNW. So, historic is relative. From my perspective - if it's built in 1920... it's historic. That's pretty close to WWI.
