We haven't been able to sell our house in the last state we lived in, so we are mostly likely going to rent a house in the next couple of weeks in Camas. Can anyone who actually has children in a Camas elementary school please comment on the quality of your school? I've seen the test scores but the numbers don't mean as much to me as would personal experience.

Thanks!

Topaz

My niece and nephew attend Camas schools and my sister teaches at one. They're all very good, but some are a little better than others. Here's the order that I'd place them if I were forced to choose for my own kids:

1.) Helen Baller (the "all" in Baller is pronounced like the man's name "Al", not like it wound be as in the sentence "all of us")
2.) Dorothy Fox
3.) JD Zellerbach (also commonly referred to as JDZ)
3.) Prune Hill
4.) Lacamas Heights

All of these elementary schools are superior to most in the area, however, I have my favorites based on information from my sister, many of our friends working and teaching in this district, and other friends with kids who attend these schools.

For the most part, the Camas SD has very professional, caring, and skilled personnel, all the way from the custodians to the administrators. Like all professions, there are a couple stinkers. However, in Camas they're very few and far between.

If you have any other questions about the area, feel free to PM me. If you'd like the skinny on neighborhoods or other specific information, let me know and I'll help however I'm able.

Topaz,

We just moved to Camas three weeks ago for my husband's job. We were trying to buy a home (tons of homes for sale, overwhelming and prices are really softening) but I was so confused so we are renting a home near Dorothy Fox elementary. I have a first grader and I have been talking to all the neighbors and they love it. No complaints. There is a new elementary going to be built by Skyridge Middle School in Camas but not till '09 I believe. Boundaries won't be established. One thing to really take in consideration is the whole area is growing so fast that boundaries change for schools. I think you can't go wrong with any of the elementary schools. I joined a Mom's Club last week and went to several of their functions here in Camas and got tons of school and life in Camas information. You can email me...melpotensky@aol.com if you have questions. I have looked at fourty homes with my realtor so I have a good idea of the housing market. Finding a place to rent here is not that easy. Good luck selling your existing home.

Melinda
