Where can I find a lobster dinner in a nice restaurant in the Vancouver area? (Not Red Lobster, please.)

I guess my New England roots will show here but west coast lobster just isn't very good.

Get some Dungeness instead?

What the heck is a west coast lobster? Lobsters don't grow in the Pacific along the west coast. They're flown here from the east coast.

Spiny lobster? I believe that's what it's called.

I guess you could get lobster brought in from Maine if that's your thing but I think the reason that most restaurants here don't have it is because there is so much excellent local seafood.

Thanks for your irrelevant input. I grew up in the PNW and am well familiar with local seafood. I'm asking if anyone can recommend a good local restaurant serving (east coast) lobster.

Honestly for high-end seafood I think I would cross the river to Portland where you'll have a lot more options. There are a bunch of good seafood places in Portland depending on how much $$$ you want to spend and which neighborhood you want to visit.

And yes, there are no lobsters on the Oregon coast. They are all flown in from Maine. There is a small spiny lobster fishery in California but I don't know if those ever make it up to the Northwest seafood markets. I kind of doubt it. The Maine lobster fishery is much much larger. Your northwest shellfish option would be Dungeness Crab. Your Alaska option would be King Crab.

Lobster offerings in Vancouver are slim. Joe's Crab Shack? McGrath's Fish House?

This is a tough one, looking forward to the responses. Frankly, I can't think of any quality place to get sit-down lobster here in Vancouver.

Portland so thoroughly dominates the food scene. It's arguably the best in the United States, and I unquestionably put it at number one, having traveled extensively throughout the lower 48. I'll take Portland restaurants, dives, and farmer's markets, every time over NYC, SF, LA, and all the rest.

It's got to be tough to compete here in Vancouver, just fifteen minutes away from the Portland food juggernaut. Best-in-the-nation food, and no sales tax.

The Washington Post agrees with you! Portland was recently named the #1 Food City in the US.
