Hi everyone,

I'm making my first trip out of the US to go to Vancouver in March (can't wait to see your beautiful city!). I'll be alone in the city for a week, and I'm staying at a hotel right by the convention center... I'd love to hear your recommendations for things to do during my downtime, places to eat, and really any and all adventures I can go on! So far my plan is to do some exploring during my morning runs, and then get in some more on-foot exploration in the afternoons.

Also, am I right to think that I can get around easily by foot and public transit (forgive the question - lifelong Los Angeles citizen here who knows nothing about getting around anywhere else).

Thanks!

Yes, the convention centre location is ideally situated for walking and public transit. From your hotel, you should be able to walk up along Granville or Robson Street to Stanley Park as well over to English Bay. From English Bay, try to catch a ferryboat over to Granville Island Market for mere pocket change. Another one of my recommendations would be to take the seabus over to Lonsdale Quay to get the beautiful city views. Give Stanley Park a day, Granville Island a Saturday, Lonsdale Quay an afternoon and Robson/Granville Streets a Thurs or Fri evening. The AuBar I believe is still one of the hotspots on Smithe St for clubbing or if you prefer a bar and a band, try The Roxy on Granville. For restaurants, I'd recommend CinCin, The Cactus Club Cafe or Joe Fortes (all off Robson) or The Cheshire Cheese if you are at Lonsdale Quay. If you feel adventurous and want to try the skytrain one afternoon, take it over to Metrotown and try some shopping. Their food fare has a really good Thai station.
