Hi,

I currently reside in Seattle, WA at the moment and was going to visit a friend that lives in Kelowna by car, but they have informed me that the route that I would take from Seattle to Kelowna it would not be a good idea as I would be in a rental car with no appropriate kit to drive on those roads.

Is there any public transport that would leave from Vancouver like a train or Bus that could get me there. I was hoping to leave this coming Tuesday.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Desantos,

I live in Vancouver BC, we had a very mild 'warm' winter this year.

My mother came to visit from Kelowna for Christmas and stayed until Jan 19th.
She said her drive home was perfect and no snow.

So check the road conditions, maybe you will be fine with a rental car. If an elderly women did it, so can you.

The greyhound bus discontinued their service at the end of 2018. So no longer any public transportation services that go across BC.

Another idea is a website www.poparide.com
You can download the app on your smartphone or use the website to book rides with random people that are offering rides to your destination. I have used this website myself to get to the Okanagan (kelowna) a few times. I have also hosted rides my self. Its a very great service, you should check it out.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

It's doable, just again check the weather forecasts and most importantly, take it slow and drive in the daytime. Don't take the mountain passes this time of year in the evening IMO

Make sure the rental car has winter tires. No all season or all weather. If you go up the coquihala highway, the weather can turn pretty fast and you need the winter tires. It's very doable, but check the live cameras for the highway and make sure you have winter tires, I can't stress that enough.
