Hi I just registered and wanted to introduce myself here. My handle is Mr Chaos.

I've lived in Vancouver for almost 20 years (APR '90) and love the hell out of it. I live/work/play downtown. I'm a big 2010 fan and can't wait but I usually have opinions on most anything pertaining to Vancouver.

Looking forward to an engaging repartee.

Hi Mr Chaos, since you have lived in Vancouver for almost 20 years, can you tell me about how it has changed? My fiance and I are going to possibly relocate there and I am interested in knowing some of its history. Seems like most of the city has been built within the past 20 years.

Welcome Mr. Chaos!

It's good to have another member on this subforum because it doesn't get that much traffic. What do you mean by a big fan of 2010? Olympic or just looking forward to next year?

Vancouver has changed over the last 20 years. There has probably been over 100 - 150 towers built downtown so the downtown looks significantly different. Not neccesarily more dense just more of what was already here. Although there is now about 90,000 people living downtown, it doesn't really seem crowded. Even on Robson street where retail is King.

One of the things I love about Vancouver is that there is always something new. Either new buildings or new public services and infrastructure, most notably our new Canada Line rapid transit linking downtown with YVR.

Stanley Park is a treasured jewel and I hike through there all the time. I usually access SP via either the Coal Harbour seawalk or the False Creek seawall due west. If you're half-way active people, I just can't see another city that would provide more.

I'm biased of course.

I noticed that things were a little slow on here but I'm happy to chime in now 'n then.

Yes! I am totally pumped for 2010! I know that not everyone supports the Olympics but I'm not going to dampen my excitement because of it. I am expecting a palpable electricity on the streets of downtown Vancouver we'll never feel again.

Moderator's Note:

Not to rain on the parade (Lord knows Vancouverites don't need any more rain in their lives), but City Data asks that threads have a specific thread rather be just general discussion areas.

Specific topics make it much easier for mother users of the site to find information.

Welcome to the forum, Mr. Chaos. Hopefully your expertise on a wonderful city will be of great help to those less informed.
