Here is an interesting article about meat consumption and cancer rates. The National Cancer Institute examined the data on 494000 participants, comparing the data on those that ate the most meat and those that eat the least.

Nice one!

Here are a few fun facts from The Food Revolution by John Robbins.

Risk of colon cancer for those who eat meat once a week versus vegetarians: 38% higher. Eat meat daily versus those who don't at all? 250% higher. (American Journal of Epidemology)

Risk of colon cancer for those who eat poultry four times per weel compared to vegetarians: 200-300 times higher. (American Journal of Epidemology)

It's more complex than simply meat versus vegetable. It's the type of meat, how it's cooked (or if it's cooked), etc., and likewise, with vegetarian diets, what vegetables are eaten/etc. Plenty of vegetables have potential health effects, such as soy (unfermented versus traditional fermented products), rapeseed oil, potatoes often have small amounts of toxins in them, etc. With meat, it's much healthier if it's not cooked hotter than it would get if boiled. No food is quite as simple as it first appears, once it's studied...

Absolutely, Artic. And that very thing is discussed in the link I posted. It reviews preparation, growth, pesticides, organic vs. traditional "factory" production farms, meat and vegetable, etc. And, offers their conclusion.

I certainly do not make judgements on my friends who raise their own cows for food (I know three couples who do this). Two of those families woud never purchase store-bought cow, chicken or any other meat because of those very issues we both seem to be talking about here.

I have not read the studies in the link you provided on the Inuit yet, but I will. Knowledge, not acrimony, is a great thing we can all share.
