Dried beans are always some of the cheapest sources of protein you can find. Canned beans, while not as cheap as dried, are still cheap compared to most things and have the bonus of being quick to prepare.

If you have a natural grocery store, such as Whole Foods, then I'd recommend checking out the bulk bins for deals on all kinds of rice, quinoa, textured soy protein and about everything else you can think of. It's far cheaper than buying the prepackaged stuff.

Aside from that, farmers markets are an invaluable source of good deals.

Much cheaper than those big expensive machines.
The Reynolds Handy Vac. I use one too.

My wife has armed herself with a variety of bean salad recipes. 60 cents a can, really can't beat that. Tofu at the Asian marts in Fargo is a 1.20 a block.
I've been rocking a lot of homemade bean-and-cheese burritos. We've been buying our Boca Burgers at Sam's Club at a redonk cheap rate. We've ditched fake sandwich slices to save some cash and going out to eat less.
