I liked the Smart Dogs, but tonight I tested them against the Morningstar dogs. The Morningstar Dogs tasted better-more flavor, a lot like the Oscar Meyer Wieners.

I don't think I've tried the Smart Dogs, although I've had the Morningstar Farms dogs a few times. Given that I was never a fan of "real" hot dogs, I have to admit that these generally aren't on the top of my list of what's-for-dinner -- but they're great when everyone's grilling and you don't want to feel left out. Even better, though, are the Boca "Italian sausage" links -- yum! Morningstar Farms has come out with a version now, too, but I still think I like Boca better.

(Sorry -- I think I hijacked the thread ..... )

I never ate an Oscar Meyer weiner, but I have tried most of the varieties of veggie or tofu dogs.
I think Morningstar are the best, but Yves are pretty good also.

The Morningstar probably taste so good cause they are made with corn syrup/corn oil.

Smartdogs are vegan, and Morningstar one's generally are not. They usually put egg and/or dairy ingredients in their products.

I grew up on the .58 cent Bar S weenies - Oscar Meyer was considered "too rich" for us. LOL::

Did Morningstar Farms quit making their hot dogs and corn dogs? My daughter is vegetarian and loves them, however, we cannot find them anymore. Also, my son gave up eggs as well. I saw someone mention Smart Dogs were vegan (they didn't like those much). Are there any other vegan hot dogs that anyone knows of or even a recipe?

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen them for a while. I always enjoyed the mini-corndogs .....

I bought some Trader Joe's vegetarian (don't know if they were vegan or not) corn dogs a while back. Ugh. Didn't even finish the package. Does Tofurky make hotdogs? I can't remember right now.

If you have a natural foods store or large grocery store with a vegetarian section nearby, your best bet might be just to go in and browse.

Best of luck -- be sure to let us know if you stumble across a brand that's worth trying!

I like Morningstar and Yves; both of these products you can find on their websites and they will narrow down local stores that carry them.
