Hello.

I'd like to travel to San Diego from Oxnard from 15Jul-17Jul but this is during the 405 will be closed for road and bridge construction and the news and Mayor have been saying to stay away from this area during the construction due to closing the freeway by no later than 10 p.m. on the 15th. What other alternate routes are there? maybe going through the I-5 south? I just want to avoid this particular area on the 405 south. The last thing i want is to get lost or something...Thanks y'all

I would take Hwy #1 down the coast through Malibu to Santa Monica, turn left on the 10 East to the 405 or the 5 and head South to San Diego. This will bypass the 405 construction which is between 10 and 101.

Another route would be to take the 101 East to the 5 and head South to San Diego but that would probably take longer, not sure, check Google Maps.

Anyway you should be able to get around the 405. The news is making this sound like the biggest traffic problem of the century.

All the north-south routes will be clogged. Your best bet is to go inland via 210 and wrap all the way around to the 57, then continue on 5 south from there.

It will add about 30+ minutes, but it's safer than taking an adjacent north-south route (1, 5, 605, 710).

Good luck.

Like to or have to? You couldn't pay me to drive anywhere in LA that weekend unless it was a life or death necessity. Its bad even on a regular Saturday when all the roads are open.

I'd probably do what someone else suggest, namely, use the 210 via the 118. I'd imagine most people trying to get south would just try 101 -> 5 or PCH.

Also, this is a long drive regardless, do you have to drive? I'd take the Amtrak instead of driving and get some things done on my way! The train ride takes around 4~4:30 hours.

I agree, this is the way I would go.

Why not take the train and enjoy yourself? Rent a car if you need one when you get there. The trip cost $38 one way and they have wifi on many cars.
