My job location is near the Disney concert Hall. My start time is anywhere from 6:15-7:30.

I think I could catch the 5:39 Meteolink in Oxnard and arrive at Union Station at 7:12. Then transfer to the Red Line, depart at Civic Center, and have a 1/4 mile walk to work. So the 7:30 time sounds just feasible.

Now, getting off at 5pm and going walk -- redline -- union station to board the Metrolink by 5:10 sounds tough. I'd realistically have to leave about ~10 mins early.

So, anyone here have comments or experience on taking the train to DTLA? It's 90 minutes station to station so about 2 hours total each way factoring in getting to station, walking and etc.

This is a short term plan (<6 months) hopefully. I'd like to relocate to LA but may not be able to find a suitable place in time before the job starts.

FYI - monthly metrolink pass is $400 (!!)

Oxnard in Ventura County to Disney Concert hall? That is a long commute! Are you from the Northeast? public transportation here isn't that great. You may want to consider renting closer to LA..

Born in Oxnard. I do want to move closer to LA, but have had trouble finding a place that suits my needs on relatively short notice.

Sometimes the red line gets delayed at Union Station for up to 5 minutes during the afternoon rush hour as riders exit the trains. I had to catch the 5:40 train to OC, so I had to give myself AT LEAST 20 minutes to walk ~1/4 mi to catch the red line at 7th/Metro. If I leave exactly 20 minutes before departure, AND the subway gets delayed, I'd be sprinting up the stairs and the corridor to catch the train in time.

Do you have to stay until 5:00?

I can leave at 4pm.

The morning train arrives at union station at 7:12. I then need to go to Civic Center via the Red Line, and finish with a 6-7 minute walk. This will get me to work right ahead of the 7:30 start time (I hope!!).

The afternoon train going back to Ventura County I want to take leaves Union Station at 4:25. That feels like enough time to walk to the RL, go to US, and get on the Metrolink.

Sound reasonable?

Remember that Metrolink and Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner have a ticket-sharing arrangement, so at least in the P.M., you may have additional schedule choices back to Oxnard with Amtrak. Rail 2 Rail® Program | Metrolink
