I am contemplating a job offer in Oxnard (Oxnard Blvd/Wooley Rd). I live in Thousand Oaks. What is the traffic like going to Oxnard in the am, and coming back in the afternoon? Even with no traffic, its probably a 25-30 minute drive.. Additional $4-5 per hour, so that's decent, but right now I only have a 8-10 minute commute. So many things to think about..

I would go for it if your getting a $4 to 5 an hour increase. Then again that is just me. From what I have seen you would be heading the right way. Look at the 101 during 5 pm or so and it is wall to wall from Camarillo into Oxnard, or compared to what I know anyway. It seems that going to TO is much nicer around that time of day. I would guess that you are on the opposite track as others. Then again I don't travel it every day so my knowledge is limited to what I know of the area.

Check sigalert real time during your expected commute times (like right now). I just checked it is looks ok down the 101.

When I worked in Camarillo, the traffic going back towards TO wasn't too bad until I hit the grade and then it varied widely. If there's an accident or disabled vehicle up there, it could take a looong time!

Like the poster above said, check sigalert, its a great resource. 5/hr more means about 40$ more per day which depending on your gas mileage still would put you ahead non accounting for intangibles like work environment etc.. good luck!

Also the cost of your time commuting. If you make $5/an hour more but are commuting an extra 90 minutes each day, is it worth it?

Good point, this would depend on the OP's personal situation.
