There is a fire hydrant on the corner of an intersection. One curb of the intersecting streets is painted red, the other curb is not. Parking on the side that is not indicated on the fire lane and receiving a parking ticket, is that valid?

It's likely to be valid however you could contest it and see what happens but the judge will likely tell you that it is common sense not to park in front of a fire hydrant.

Isn’t the DMV rule not to park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant? I seem to remember this from the DMV handbook. Not all hydrants have a painted curb, but the “keep away” rule of a certain number of feet still applies, I believe. My personal rule-of-thumb is to park no closer than a medium-sized car length to a fire hydrant. Never been cited.

California DMV says you can't park within 15 feet of a Fire Hydrant. It would seem that if the hydrant is on a corner you are still within 15 feet of the hydrant. The red on the curb is not for the fire hydrant. I would bet that the red is more than likely for a bus loading and unloading area. We have fire hydrants in the neighborhood and not one of them has a red curb.
