Believe 93033 is south-east. It's nice if you can find a place around Oxnard College. Be judicious in Southwinds (south and west from Saviers Road and Channel Islands Blvd).

West Oxnard, 93035 (west and north of Ventura Road/Channel Islands Blvd.), and north, 93036, are nice. In zip 93030 be aware that the densest part of the city is La Colonia, which has a history of trouble. Other areas of 93030 are not much different from anywhere else in Oxnard -- nice. Crime in Oxnard is way down form years past. The city is rapidly changing for the better.

I just moved back from Ventura. When I moved there I too was from out of state. I had been to Oxnard before and I think some areas are ok but I felt Ventura was more for me. There were some parts even of Ventura I didn't care for. I really enjoyed the area off Telegraph and Victoria. What I would do if I were you and actually what I did is to stay in a hotel for a week while you look and get a feel. You can do some of the pre stuff like look on craigslist before. Good luck.
